Love it or hate it, social media is here to stay.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr – they are all changing the way we interact with each other and recent educational research has discovered that using these social media websites can in fact help students to develop their critical thinking skills. Of course they are also a great way for students to practice communicating in English.
And so the students in Matahayom 3EP at Varee Chiangmai School have begun a social media project ‘A Tweet a Day for 30 Days’ – The title kind of explains everything – basically each students in the class must create a Twitter Account and tweet (in English) at least once a day for an entire month. During the course of the month the students will be asked to complete various tasks including – answering questions, commenting on pictures, communicating with each other, expressing opinions and sharing ideas. So far the project is going well and the students are enjoying using their English language skills in this manner.
